Corrective Surgery

Please know that the results of a prior procedure you can have a more natural looking hair and hairline. Corrective surgery to address hair plugs and to refine hairlines is common, but it is also more complicated than if the original procedure was done well using modern techniques.

It is essential that you seek an experienced hair transplant surgeon, who only specializes in hair restoration and is accomplished in Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), and Follicular Unit Grafting.

Plugs

In the not so distant past the hair transplant technique commonly used was to essentially relocate large punches of hair follicles from the back of the head to the target area. These plugs could contain 30 hairs, even more, making it quite nearly impossible to artistically position and angle the transplanted hair to achieve natural-looking results.

Plug Repair and Hairline Refinements

To renew these “doll-head” tufts into a refined hairline with balance, that actually mimics a man’s hair growth pattern, recycling his hair plugs will be necessary, a technique called Follicular Unit Grafting. This is done by partially or entirely removing the plugs from the scalp and then dividing each one into much smaller Follicular Unit grafts, which typically contain one to four hairs each. These individual follicular units are then re-implanted into the scalp.

New follicular units may also be harvested and transplanted into the same area to ensure the most natural looking results. It is common for patients to achieve a new and much more natural look in only one session. What’s more, because of modern techniques, the procedure is more comfortable than earlier transplant surgeries, and post-operative healing is also easier and faster, and therefore a lot less painful.

Corrective hair restoration demands a medically and artistically experienced and skilled surgeon to create natural angles through the right orientation and position of the transplanted hair… And so should you, no matter whether you are exploring hair restoration options for the first time or seeking corrective surgery.
