Hair Restoration: When You’ll See Hair Growth Results

Hair restoration, no matter the method used, requires patience. Different treatments are prescribed for different goals, and therefore also have different timelines for showing progress and achieving results.

If you have any questions about your progress or the results of a treatment prescribed or performed by Armani Medical, simply give us a call. We are Dallas-Fort Worth’s nationally recognized award-winning hair restoration practice. We pride ourselves on always being available to our patients when they need us.

It is also important to note that because every man’s physiology is unique, not every patient will see progress or final results from the same method at the same rate. That said, there are some general timelines that can guide your expectations.

Surgical Methods

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Three months after your surgical hair transplant procedure you can expect to see about 30 percent of your results. At six months you may be able to see about half. You should be able to appreciate your final results anywhere from one year to 15 months after the procedure.

Non-Surgical Methods

These non-invasive methods require a long-term commitment to following a treatment regimen. Also bear in mind that no two patients are the same, and that everyone’s hair grows at a different rate.

Finasteride (Propecia®)

The longer and more consistently you use this medication, the better your results. According to studies, almost half of all men using finasteride see some hair growth, or at least the preservation of the hair they already have after one year of use. At two years, two thirds see improvement. While most final results are achieved in the first two years, some 90 percent of men say they see improvement after five years.

Minoxidil (Rogaine®)

The timing of when you can expect results from using this medication is difficult to define. One study showed that more than 70 percent of men saw hair growth after 4 months, while other studies report that no difference was observed until after 12 months. The important takeaway here is that once you start using this medication, you cannot stop or results will be lost and will not return.

Laser Hair Therapy (LHT)

In one six-month study this treatment, which is also called Low-Level Laser Therapy, showed that 93 percent of men, aged 30 to 60, had quantifiable improvement. On average there were 19 additional hairs per square centimeter. At this time there have not been any further studies showing longer-term results.
