The PURE™ Harvesting Method refers to Dr. Armani’s trademarked surgical technique and guiding philosophy, applied to both FUT and FUE procedures. PURE™, which stands for Precise Ultra Refined Extraction, reflects his approach to follicular harvesting and emphasizes operating at the absolute minimum depth necessary to safely obtain healthy follicles while protecting their survival and preserving surrounding and underlying tissue, along with the nerves and vascular structures providing circulation to the scalp.
It is important to note that beneath the follicles lie thin, deeper structural layers of the scalp that contain important anatomical structures, including nerves, blood vessels, and supporting tissue. When harvesting extends unnecessarily into these deeper layers in either FUT or FUE procedures, these structures may be disrupted, which can increase bleeding, tissue trauma, post-operative discomfort, scalp tightness, and the risk of other complications, including prolonged or permanent numbness and, in rare cases, necrosis of the scalp.
For perspective, the surgical plane used for PURE™ follicular harvesting is typically only a few millimeters deep — often around 3–4 millimeters — roughly comparable to, or only slightly thicker than, the skin over your fingertips. The PURE™ approach emphasizes maintaining the correct, appropriately superficial surgical plane and depth, remaining within this level rather than extending unnecessarily into deeper tissue layers.
By carefully limiting extraction depth to only what is necessary to safely harvest follicles, this technique helps reduce intraoperative bleeding, preserve blood flow to both transplanted grafts and surrounding existing follicles, and support predictable healing. Many patients also experience less swelling, reduced post-operative discomfort, and a smoother recovery when harvesting is performed using refined, tissue-preserving technique.
Rather than focusing on a single advantage, the PURE™ philosophy reflects a comprehensive approach to hair transplantation in which precise harvesting technique is intended to improve surgical comfort, protect scalp health, preserve circulation, support follicular survival, and contribute to natural, stable, long-term results.
